Dear Parents,
This is our final newsletter for the 2009 – 2010 School-Year. Let me begin by offering my deepest thanks to all of you for your confidence, support, and trust in the Choir School as the place of education and formation you have chosen for your family. I know that you have many choices regarding the education of your children, and I am grateful to you for making the Madeleine Choir School your learning community in this year past.
I also want to take this opportunity to again thank you for the countless hours of volunteer time, the financial support of our various fundraising efforts, and the many other ways you have contributed to make the Choir School advance ahead in its service to our young people.

La dolce vita
Final days for registering for the Rome Pilgrimage/Performance Tour to Italy scheduled for November 5th through the 15th are approaching. Information about the registration process can be obtained by going to www.encoretours.com and select on the menu item “Participants”. On the next menu select “Register” and select “Participant/Student”. The next page will ask you for your group leader’s ID number: it is 14084 and your group leader’s last name: Glenn. The next page will ask you to select the appropriate tour – the top entry “The Madeleine Choir School Tour of Italy” is for students and performers. The second entry “MCS Family Members” is for parents, relatives and friends who wish to travel on the accompanying tour. The final entry is for individuals wishing to depart from New York City (i.e. for a relative or friend who is traveling from somewhere else in the United States.)
I hope that all of our school families have a wonderful summer, and I look forward to seeing you in August as we begin our fifteenth year of service at the Choir School.
With gratitude and best wishes,
Gregory Glenn

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Friends of the Madeleine Choir School,
Congratulations to all as we bring to a close a very successful fourteenth year of The Madeleine Choir School. Thank you to the efforts of all: parents, students, faculty, staff, friends and benefactors, who allow us to do what we do here! Your efforts do not go unnoticed and are appreciated by all. I also hope that all of you enjoy a summer break of relaxation and time with the ones you love.
Last Friday marked the commencement ceremony for our eighth graders. The ceremony was filled with reverence, thanksgiving, and many accomplishments worth noting by our young graduates. In addition to multiple subject awards for top academic achievement (determined by top numerical averages for the year), three other awards unique to The Choir School were handed out. Mr. Nicholas Compagni was awarded the Caritas Christi Award. This award is given to the student who builds community by exemplifying a genuine love, concern, and respect for others. Jaclyn Tani and Abbie McGill were the recipients of the Mary Magdelene award, which is awarded to a student who exemplifies the Choir School’s mission through scholarship, service and leadership. The recipient of the award demonstrates consistently high standards in their academic pursuits, their service to the community, and their leadership skills throughout their years at the school. This year the Irene Sweeney award, which is awarded to a parent(s) who upon the graduation of their last child, has exemplified outstanding leadership, dedication, passion and generosity in their service to The Choir School. This award was named and awarded to Yvette Tani for her tenure in various leadership roles with the Choir Board and HSA, as well as her time, talent and generosity. Thank you Yvette for all of the support over the years!
I would also like to take time and ask you to help me in thanking our dedicated faculty and staff. This is a very fine group of professionals who make it their top priority to provide your children with a safe, exciting, and creative place to learn and grow. Our students’ achievement and growth would not be possible without all of them. My sincere thanks to all of these fine people who make up our Choir School faculty and staff!
Again, I would like to sincerely thank you for the honor of serving this community during the 2009-2010 school year. Please see below for our summer hours. We will be sending out the completed school calendar towards the end of July. I look forward to sharing the 2010-2011 school year with all of you-a year of growth, change, success and learning.

LIBRARY NEWS:
I have to thank a few people who have been instrumental in getting the library completed. Without their drills and know-how it would not have gotten done. Thank you to James Ohman, Tim Pratt, Mike Weglarz, Rene Alvarez, my husband Tim and our great friend John Werner.
This week we will do the finishing touches of getting the books onto the shelves. If you’d like to join in then feel free.
There are a couple of items that the library could use if any of you would like to donate these. They are not needed until the fall.
- A nice clock to hang on the wall. There is a spot hard-wired already for one.
- Decorations to go on the high shelves around the library.
- A ceiling fan.
Thank you everybody! There has been so much help with this project, and I apologize if I forgot to thank you in the newsletters.
